About the 2019 EXPO WORKSHOPS…

The following 2 Professional Development Workshops are taking place during the 2019 MN Field Trip & Activity EXPO at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum on Tuesday, August 13.

Each workshop is worth 1 hour of earned CEU clocktime.  Up to 6 hours of clocktime can be earned at the 2019 EXPO at no charge for workshop participation, and for interviewing exhibitors. A CEU certificate will be issued at no charge when leaving the EXPO.

The workshops are conveniently located in the Snyder Building’s 2nd Floor CLASSROOM.
Seating is limited to 50 individuals in each workshop on a first-come, first-served basis.

“ACCESSIBILITY & INCLUSION FOR VISITORS WITH NEURODIVERSITIES” – Especially as this relates to Groups
Led by Eric Ringgenberg, Education Program Director, Autism Society of Minnesota – AUSM

Support Panel Participants:
– REM5 Virtual Reality Laboratory – Discussing use of VR with special needs individuals
– Mall of America – Discussing the use of Quiet Rooms

ABOUT ERIC RINGGENBERG
Eric Ringgenberg is the Education Program Director for the Autism Society of Minnesota. He has a Bachelor of Science in Child Psychology from the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities and a Master of Arts in Special Education- Autism Spectrum Disorders from the University of St. Thomas. Additionally, Eric has more than a decade of experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum in multiple settings and capacities, as well as coordinating implementation of evidence-based practices.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
This session will review proactive steps that can be taken to increase accessibility and inclusion for visitors with neurodiversities. Learn about evidence-based supports such as social narratives, visual supports, and environmental modifications to promote successful participation for a wide range of individual needs. Local examples will illustrate how these steps can be implemented across different venues. Panel members will discuss positive support opportunities and options for group members with special needs.

“SUPPORTING STEM STANDARDS UTILIZING INDEPENDENT, UNUSUAL CURRICULUM”

Led by Dale Wolpers, retired MS principal, and creator of the MN Twins acclaimed program – “LEARNING THROUGH BASEBALL”

Schools are turning to unusual programming that will support STEM standards and help students learn. Dale will lead a discussion with panelmembers from other providers with active, recognized STEM programs, including:
– Learning Through Baseball by Target Field Tours & the MN Twins
– iFly Minneapolis Indoor Sky Diving
– The Learning Jet
