Introducing DOUG PAULSON
Workshop Panel Leader & Presenter: Aligning Field Trips, School Assemblies & Programs with Standards

Doug Paulson

  • Doug Paulson serves as the STEM integration specialist for the Minnesota Department of Education, focusing on support for schools integrating standards and other STEM initiatives. Paulson also is the state coordinator for the federal Mathematics and Science Partnerships grant, overseeing the statewide development of modules that focus on science, engineering, and mathematics. He has presented at several national conferences, including the International Technology and Engineering Education Association and the National Science

    Teachers Association annual conferences, as well as many state and regional conferences. He was recognized by ASCD in its 2011 class of Emerging Leaders and currently serves on the boards of the Works Museum, AirSpaceMinnesota, and SciMathMN.

    Doug will be leading the EXPO workshop panel on “ALIGNING STANDARDS” at 10:30am on August 17th.

     

Introducing KATIE MCKEE
Workshop Panel Leader & Presenter: Grant Resources • Funding sources and ideas for field trips, assemblies & programs.

  • Katie McKee is the School Programs Supervisor at the Minnesota Historical Society’s History Center, where she has worked for 13 years. She runs the daily operations of History Center’s field trip program, which draws about 50,000 students each year. She also works close with staff on training and program development to ensure that every school age visitor to the History Center has a wonderful time. She is passionate about ensuring every Minnesota child’s access to the programs and services offered by the Historical Society and loves talking about the various grants available to groups for this purpose.

    Katie will be leading the EXPO workshop panel on “GRANT RESOURCES” at 1:00pm on August 17th.

  • Tracie Dewberry is the President of the North Star Unit of the Minnesota PTA and is the immediate past president of Minnesota State Parent Teachers Association (MN PTA). MN PTA is part of the National PTA, the nation’s largest volunteer child advocacy organization. The North Star Unit is responsible for building relations with businesses who focus on the success of the Minnesota child and promote family involvement as well as a state chapter that allows people to join PTA who do not have a local PTA in their community.
    Tracie has been involved with Parent Teacher groups and associations for approximately 13 years and has been on the Minnesota PTA State Board since 2011. She graduated from Spelman College with a B.S. in Computer Science and she obtained a M.S. in Systems Management from SUNY Stony Brook University. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and children snowmobiling and jetskiing.Tracie will be contributing as a GRANT RESOUCES Workshop panel member at 12:30 pm on August 17th.

 

Introducing ALSA BRUNO

AlsaBruno

  • Alsa Bruno is GiveMN’s Outreach and Partnership Coordinator. He is also the most handsome giving consultant. He cranks out emails. He works with communities statewide to connect them with all that GiveMN has to offer. He wakes up every morning and does smile crunches to keep his grin in shape. Alsa spends most days and nights thinking of creative ways to improve everyone’s giving experience.
    Alsa first joined GiveMN in 2013 as an AmeriCorps VISTA, landing the job despite being an hour late, over-heated, and needing to flee for the bathroom. He returned to the GiveMN team in 2015 to reclaim his titular role as the happiness champion, growing grinning and giving for givers everywhere. Between GiveMN stints Alsa worked with traumatized young people in the Preschoolers Achieving Skills for Success program under Family Adolescent and Children Therapy Services (FACTS), where his knack for igniting happiness was well utilized, working with preschoolers to re-build their smiles. Alsa is a Cinema and Media Studies graduate of Carleton College.
    When he’s not at GiveMN, Alsa is with the Youthrive Scholars, a team of young people who live out the mission and vision of supporting youth as agents of change for themselves and their communities.Alsa will be contributing as a GRANT RESOUCES Workshop panel member at 12:30 pm on August 17th.

  • Jonathan is an educator with 10 years of teaching experience in the Twin Cities area. He currently is a Special Education teacher providing multimedia technology instruction to students with various disabilities for Intermediate District 287. Jonathan is passionate about the integration of technology into the classroom, developing grant ideas that motivate student achievement and infusing graphic design into his professional and personal life.Jonathan has been writing grants for both classroom and nontraditional settings for several years. A MastersDegree in Special Education, Augmentative Alternative Communications (AAC) from PennState University in 2006. A Masters Certificate in Instructional Design & Technology, fromFull Sail University in 2013.Jonathan and his wife Sabrina have also established a business called, S & J Creations, LLC focused on providing web, print and other services to small business. Grant writing, grant workshops and consulting fall under the other services provide by their company.Jonathon will be contributing as a GRANT RESOUCES Workshop panel member at 12:30 pm on August 17th.

 

Introducing  JAYNE WAHLBERG
Workshop Leader & Presenter: Homeschooling in Minnesota

  • Jayne Wahlberg graduated from Evangel College in 1978 with a degree in Early Child Care and Development.  In 1984 she gave up her career to become a full-time mother. In 1989 she began home-schooling her own children. In 1996 Jayne founded St. Croix Valley Home school Cooperative, an incorporated non profit organization with the State of Minnesota.  The co-op served approximately 35 families (50 children). In 1999 Jayne reorganized the co-op under the new name of Home Educators Resource Organization (HERO).
  • In 2001, Jayne registered HERO as a 501(c)3 organization.  At that time HERO served approximately 100 home schooling families (200 children).
  • In June of 2009, Jayne Wahlberg was asked to serve as secretary on the MHA  (Minnesota Homeschool Alliance) board. In 2010 she became the treasurer for MHA.  Jayne resigned this position in the summer of 2012. 2015-2016 begins her twentieth year as the founder and administrator for HERO. Jayne is a homeschool consultant and workshop speaker.

      Jayne will be leading the “HOMESCHOOLING IN MINNESOTA” workshop at 2pm on August 17th.
