• DNR Firewise in the Classroom
Young people, as community members and future homeowners, can play a critical role in helping communities reduce the wildfire risk of homes by conducting Firewise Assessments. These assessments of a community are critical to planning and implementing mitigation to prevent homes from loss to wildfire. A community needs to know where its high-risk homes are, and what factors make those homes high risk. Many communities have very few paid staff, and do not have the resources to do an assessment. There is an untapped resource in every community – middle and high school students.

• End O Line Railroad Park & Museum
Currie (MN) marked the end of the line for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad.   This line was originally supposed to go through to South Dakota but with lines going through Tracy on the north and Slayton on the south, they didn’t see a need to continue the tracks past Currie. The turntable was built in 1901 and was used to turn the steam engines around to head back to Bingham Lake. The turntable is on the National Register of Historic Sites and is the only one left in the state of Minnesota, on the original site, still operable, and always turned by man power – it was never hooked up to steam or horses. Our musuem is a gem full of railroad history as well as early American frontier history. At the EXPO you’ll find us at the Laurie Ingalls Wilder Museum exhibit.

We offer group tours of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis to middle and high schools, home school groups, boy and girl scouts, and other community youth organizations. Tours include viewing our cash processing area.

• Feed My Starving Children
We are a Christian non-profit organization committed to feeding God’s children hungry in body and spirit. A perfect field trip of service or mission for schools, churches or groups of any age. Volunteers pack millions of nutritionally-balanced meals every year and we ship them to distribution partners around the world.
